How it works
More oxygen, delivered under pressure.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy works by increasing the oxygen dissolved in your blood plasma under pressure, helping deliver it more effectively throughout the body.
HBOT is an established medical therapy for specific approved conditions, and research is exploring wider uses, though the evidence isn’t equally strong for every goal. That’s why every protocol at CELL starts with an assessment, and why Dr Sara won’t prescribe sessions just because they’re available.
Your session
What happens in a session.
01
Getting settled
Our team runs through anything in your health screening that needs a quick check. You’ll get your own mask for the oxygen, sit comfortably in the chamber and practise equalising your ears before the door is sealed.
02
Pressurisation
The chamber gradually increases in pressure over several minutes, up to your prescribed level. You may feel fullness in your ears, similar to flying. We’ll guide you through equalising, and it usually settles within the first 5 to 10 minutes.
03
The main session
Once at pressure, you breathe oxygen for the bulk of your session. You can relax, rest, listen to music or simply switch off. Most people find it calm and restful.
04
Decompression and after
Towards the end, pressure gradually eases back to normal over several minutes. Then the door opens and you can go straight back to your day, with no recovery time needed.

Questions
Hyperbaric oxygen FAQs.
What happens during a session?
You sit in the chamber as pressure gradually increases. You might feel fullness in your ears, similar to flying. We’ll show you how to equalise. The pressure holds for your session time, then eases back down.
What’s the purpose of the increased pressure?
It allows more oxygen to dissolve into your blood plasma, increasing oxygen availability to tissues. HBOT is an established medical therapy for specific approved conditions, and research is exploring wider uses, though the evidence isn’t equally strong for every goal.
How long is a session?
A standard session is 60 minutes, including compression and decompression. Extended sessions of 1 hour 25 minutes are also available.
How much does hyperbaric oxygen therapy cost?
A single 60-minute session is $150, or less per session in a 5, 10 or 20-pack. HBOT is also included in most CELL memberships.
Is CELL’s chamber easy to get into?
Yes. It’s a seated, side-entry hard-shell chamber chosen for comfort and easy access. Suitability still depends on your mobility, health and ability to follow ear-equalising instructions.
How many sessions might I need?
Entirely dependent on your goal and health. Research suggests best outcomes are generally seen between 20–60 sessions for many goals, but Dr Sara won’t prescribe sessions just because they’re available.
What are the risks or reasons a session might stop?
Ear or sinus discomfort, temporary vision changes, claustrophobia, low blood sugar in susceptible people, and rarely, more serious pressure- or oxygen-related complications. We pause or stop a session if anything doesn’t feel right.
Who might need medical clearance, or not be suitable?
People with certain lung conditions, ear or sinus problems, acute illness, high blood pressure, cardiac disease, cancer or cancer therapy, poorly controlled diabetes, pregnancy or recent procedures. An untreated pneumothorax is an absolute contraindication.
